"Free Writing" in the morning
Anyone who's been writing for a while has likely at least heard of Julia Cameron even if they have not read her by now well known book, The Artist's Way. It is primarily geared for writers and yet she makes clear that her strategy works even for people who simply want to experience their lives as creative.
The basic tool is "three morning pages." They are what they appear to be. Three pages written in the morning. And, they are to be done as "free writing." That is, whatever comes to your mind gets put onto the page (like free association, originated by Freud in the late 1800). Writing whatever comes to mind — no censoring, no thinking, no overthinking, and certainly no criticizing – is the core of the morning pages.
One further point. In my personal experience as well as when I work with people as a writing coach, I find that whether you write in the morning, afternoon, or evening makes no difference. Nor does it matter if you write at the same time every day. Every person and every writer is unique. What IS important is that regardless of whether you do any other writing, that you do three "morning" pages. And, since every person and every writer IS unique, let's not be a stickler about "every day."
Not only do these pages open up your creativity, but as well they are a way to address writer's block. For more on dealing with writer's block see my e-book, Overcome Writer's Block Easily.
