Writing for Coaches

I have been examining various kinds of writing that involve the need to overcome writer's block besides what we typically think of.  Namely fiction and nonfiction, including poetry.

While I have helped many writers with their fiction and nonfiction, I have recently been coaching people who do not think of themselves as writers, and yet find they need to write.  These people are life coaches.  They are looking to create web presence for themselves to help promote their business.  Usually, the first web product they need to create is a brochure website that attracts people to their site as well as converts these people into coaching clients.  Of course, they can hire a copywriter.  But, more often than not, they want to feel connected to do their writing and produce other writing as well, especially newsletters, articles, ebooks and blogs.

Writing is writing.  The same issues arise for someone working on a web project as on a print project.  A huge issue is the fear of being seen.  It stops people from getting started. Doing one on one coaching work allows the person to become desensitized to the idea of someone, anyone, reading what they've written.  I've also worked in small group groups of no more than eight people.  Again this situation allows people to overcome their fear of being seen.

Not surprisingly, once they get words onto paper, they're pleased with what they've written.  Usually more work is needed to bring the work to a level that satisfied them, but they're motivated to do it because they've been pleased by their first attempt.

My personal experience has confirmed for me that there truly is a writing voice inside all of us, if we're willing to take the chance and let it out.
