TELEGROUPS HELP YOU GROW AS A WRITER
In my writing coaching telegroup, one of the most valuable aspects is the opportunity to receive positive feedback. We often underestimate the value of hearing/seeing what we have done right. In the context of the group, this means what we have written that pleases others. We ALWAYS have the opportunity to focus on what pleases us as a reader.
In the telegroup the expectation is that each person will write freely. Also, that they will have fun. In fact, we've agreed that they will have the word "fun" posted visibly in their writing area. Over time, the participants "get it," and they begin to have more and more fun.
Although they're also getting feedback about what others may not understand or what does not resonate for others, still it is clear that the wrtier "chooses" whether she agrees with the feedback. Again, over time, each writer's voice becomes clearer, more distinctive, and richer. Each writer's writing expressiveness expands (the initial problem upon entering the writing group is typically fear of expressing themselves on paper-this is a problem for writers as well as for wannabe writers). And, the writers look forward to revising/editing. Can you believe that?
In my experience as a writer, as well as a coach for writers individually and in telegroups, freewriting and supportive positive feedback with the opportunity to dialogue for the purpose of helping the writer hear her own voice, is a direct and fruitful path to writing success.
