The Flow of Writing

I have taken on a new non writing work situation, and it is both taking time (new time) and I am tired because it is a new activity.  Still, writing is key for me.  I often like to blog about things other writers have found useful.  I guess you've noticed that.  But, today's writing is different.  It's about keeping in the flow of writing no matter what.

I've talked about this in earlier blogs and am likely to talk about it in future blog posts.  Simply sitting down with pen in hand and seeing what comes onto the page — even if it's jibberish, which so far today it isn't — is very gratifying for me today.  I feel my spirits lifting as I see the words flow onto the page, not thinking about what I'm going to write next.

I remember that Peter Elbow in Writing With Power said that sometimes free writing can result in finished or nearly finished writing.  Well, a blog can be something that you revise/edit — and there are times when I do do that.  As well, there are times, like now when I simply blog because I need to feel the pen in my hand and see the words on the page.

Before you read this, I will have typed it up so I can post it.  But the typing cannot change the primary good feelings of the writing I'm doing now.

While writers write, I do remember that I've said in at least one earlier post that sometimes it is not possible to write.  And yet, you're STILL a writer.  It is gratifying to know that today, the writer in me, has been able to express myself.  It is gratifying every time I see words on paper, even though I know I'm a writer at these times that I'm not writing.
