WRITER'S BLOCK: DISTRACTIONS
I don't "do" twitter. I don't "do" Facebook. I don't "do" Myspace. I don't "do" Linked In. At least not enough. Enough so that I'd get widely connected. I'm sure that will come in time. But, for now I am a writer and a writing coach for people who want or need to get their writing going. These sites are all great. And I enjoy surfing them. But, they are not about writing.
Writing is a solitary activity though not necessarily a lonely activity. Community is important, but too much community can distract you from your writing. Writing comes first. Support from one person can be enough to keep both inspiration and perspiration flowing.
Social networking sites are only one way to distract yourself from your writing. All I can say is "be aware… and beware of distraction. Technology has made distraction too easily available.
