WRITER'S BLOCK: ROUTINES…AGAIN

It is important to get comfortable with "writer's block."  It's part of the writer's way of being.  In the last post I suggested that there will always be writer's block whether we call it writer's block or we call it by another name.

Knowing that writer's block will always be with us can help us move through it.  For example, we won't wait until we're in the mood to write since who knows when that will happen.

In another post (April 14), I talked about creating routines as a way to promote creativity and overcome stress.  Well, having routines, including a writing routine, can help us as well move through writer's block.

Keeping moving, by keeping our pen to paper or fingers to computer has been the fundamental theme I have been espousing to dissolve writer's block.  I believe that even those writers who write in spurts (e.g., Susan Sontag) have developed an unconscious "write in spurts" routine.

We live most comfortably within our routines, not in spite of the.  It is within routines that fit our personalities, our styles of living, that we move forward as writers (as well as evolve as people), and dissolve our ever present writer's blocks.

See OVERCOME WRITER'S BLOCK EASILY for more tips on overcoming writer's block.
